William “Bill” Shanks, age 83 passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Shanks, parents: Neil and Jessie Shanks, brother: Ralph Shanks, and nephew: Ed Shanks.

He was a retired millwright with AFG, Charter member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, the Surgoinsville Ruritan Club, and a Hawkins County Rescue Squad member. He also enjoyed camping.

Bill leaves his daughters: Jane Anne and husband, Sam Lanning, and Janice Boyd. Grandchildren: Caleb and Jacob Lanning, Kim Nottingham and John Gust, Jr. Great granddaughter: Natalie Nottingham. Nephew: Mike Shanks and special family friend: Theda Burchfield.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 6, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Surgoinsville. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 with Rev. Donnie Anderson officiating.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, August, 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at McKinney Cemetery, Rogersville.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Surgoinsville.
